Are we Towsons?
Could Mary Ellen Weaver have had children after William’s passing and kept the Towson name? Or is the public knowledge of William’s passing just inaccurate?
Are we even Towson’s at all?
Frank Ellsworth Towson was born on February 3rd, 1887. As far as I can tell, that was about 3 year after his father William Lewis Towson passed away, April 12, 1883. This is quite the conundrum. Frank also has a younger brother as well still baring the Towson name. As of yet I’m unable to find publicly available birth or death records for either, however census records do pinpoint Franks birthdate.
William Lewis Towson looks to have a plot in Darlington Community Cemetery, about an hour from me, so that’s on my list to visit and query the cemetery office. The findagrave photo just has a name; the writeup notes a lack of clarity if this is William Lewis, or William Micheal, his first son who passed away in 1960 unmarried.
It’s worth noting that many public (Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com) family trees list William as having died in 1899, however without documentation. It would seem this is done just to answer the question as to who parented Frank, and his youngest son, Harold (1898). Either way the 1900 census has Frank with his mother Mary sans William.
By 1910, the census has Frank Ellsworth Towson with Myrtle E Barrow and their first son Frank Evans.
